It was time to reconsider the formal gardens in this long established country estate & our clients brief included converting the old walled kitchen garden into an area for entertaining with a swimming pool & rose garden.
Existing box hedges around the kitchen garden contained small, difficult to maintain, areas of grass & the croquet lawn was uneven & badly drained. The box hedges were in poor condition & were revitalised or replanted, with the grass removed & replaced with trees & large shrubs surrounded by a shingle mulch.
Level changes were necessary to incorporate the swimming pool which was enhanced with exotic style planting & the adjacent rose garden included rope garlands & features to elevate the plantings. A small section of wall was removed to provide a vista
& access from the rose garden to meandering walks through
new ornamental plantings. The croquet lawn was relaid, an arbor
seating area built beside the pool & a dining area by the kitchen.
