Pool to garden conversion

Budget can sometimes influence design solutions & in this garden, elevated & overlooking Essex countryside, this was definitely the case. Unused & unloved, prominently located just a few steps from the house, was a swimming pool. With difficult access & the pool constructed of reinforced concrete, most of our client's budget would have been exhausted in removing it. So it was necessary to design the garden in & around the pool, removing the bare minimum of construction to escape into the garden from the bottom of the pool. A secluded arbor provided a sun drenched location for dining at the upper level, with sleeper terraced beds disguising the pool walls & creating a route through at the lower level. It is now difficult to imagine that practically a complete swimming pool lies within the planted beds.
